Maremma by sea

For those who want to know the Maremma by sea, you can rent a rubber dinghy or a small boat in the  Ports of Talamone , Porto Ercole or Porto Santo Stefano.  

You can  also visit the  Giglio’ and  Giannutri’ island’s with a 1 hour ferry crossing departing from Port of Santo Stefano or Port of Talamone.

Therme of Saturnia (40 minutes)

It is a must to stop, either in summer or winter, at the Cascate del Mulino (free of charge) or in the Hotel Terme di Saturnia, for a refreshing and tonic hot bath.

Medieval Villages

A few miles from Magliano in Toscana, you will see the ruins of the Abbey of San Bruzo. Then continuing towards to Manciano, Montemerano, you will find the hot spring the famous thermal bath of Saturnia. If you want to continue for the Città del Tufo you will be enchanted by the beauty of Pitigliano, Sovana and Sorano. Returning to Scansano, famous for its wine the “Morellino di Scansano” you can visit Pereta with its Tower that dominates the whole of Maremma.

Towards the coast, a few miles from Capalbio, you can visit the Tarot Garden of the Franco-American artist Niki de Saint Phalle . Then in Ansedonia there are the remains of the Ancient city of Cosa.

Natural Parks  and Oasis WWF

Birdwatchers can visit the different Natural Reserves, as the Oasis of Lake Burano between Ansedonia and Capalbio, the Oasis of the Lagoon of Orbetello and, moving north, the Nature Reserve Diaccia Botrona .

Parco della Maremma extends from Principina Mare to Talamone, is a true oasis of unspoiled nature which is populated with wild boars, fallow deer, roe and Maremman cows and many species of native plants and different species of birds.

Within the park you can make educational visits or excursions hiking, biking, canoeing and a carriage.

After a good breakfast you may like to take nice walk, starting from the Inn of the Knights choosing between a walk of ½ hour, 1 hour or more on white roads that line the fields if you’re lucky you’ll meet deer, hare…. .


From the Locanda dei Cavalieri being the last house on the road, there are several white roads that run along the fields that can be covered by bicycle suitable for cyclists of all levels.


For golf lovers you have a wide choice, the closest is definitely the Argentario Golf Club in Porto Ercole about 30 minutes by car, the Terme di Saturnia Golf Club in Saturnia and the Golf Club Toscana in Gavorrano near Grosseto about 50 minutes.

Kitesurf and Windsurf

Just 20 minutes the Talamone Bay is an internationally popular destination for lovers of this sport, the wind (usually rises around one) and ends late afternoon. The shallow seabed prevents the waves.


You can do several dives with various Diving Centers in the area starting from the Port of Talamone, or the Porto Santo Stefano.

Food and wine description

The Maremma offers you a genuine cuisine made of sheep’s cheese, salami, wild boar and many wines. Even the oil is a master!

Magliano in Toscana, is famous for its restaurants with a pure Maremma cuisine, in addition in the summer there are many festivals where you can taste local cuisine.
